So the OG @RuddyRock and I were going back and forth on text about the most notable up and coming rappers, when it hit me. Most of the dudes we were talking about were from LA. Especially considering how bored I have become with the NYC hip-hop scene.
Something special is going on in the city of angels. The hip-hop scene there just seems highly original. They aren’t looking outside of their own community to figure out what is hot or what direction to go in. They are developing a sub culture of hip hop by themselves. I think that is dope as hell.
One thing I’ve noticed about the scene is that most of the dope up and comers aren’t associating themselves with what most of us associate with LA. Gang culture. I feel like this “new” LA hip hop reformation is acknowledging that as well.
The scene seems a little hyper artistic, but that is something I feel hip-hop is in desperate need of. While there is always going to be place for thoughtless rap music (i.e. Gucci Mane & Soulja Boy), I feel like hip-hop also needs to be more inclusive of music that stimulates the mind. Because as hard as it is to believe, being smart can be cool to. Which is exactly what the LA rap scene is doing.
Below I am going to link to some content that I feel demonstrates what’s going on in LA right now. Also be sure to hit up iHipHop LA for updates on the LA scene. I’m telling you right now that the music there is about to explode on a national level.
your a joke
He may be a joke but TheLL6 can't spell. I'm just pointing this out because neither can I. We should support each other. Hug?
Thank you. Thank you, thank you. The west I believe has been one of the most underlooked areas of hip-hop currently, ya'll just named a few. We got plenty more to bring.
I still fuck with the South though…
loool whaaa?
The Music Industry has abandoned LA. He's going to have to fight his way through a lot of politics.
