Video: Cash Money Suing DJ Drama and Other Mixtape DJ’s?

So apparently Cash Money is suing a bunch of mixtape DJ’s including DJ Drama.  Frank Nino makes his case for how whack the situation is in the below video.  To be honest I feel like Nino doesn’t fully understand how the business works.  He is really personalizing the situation like it’s Wayne himself who put the request in to the lawyers for the cease and desist.  I think there is a large probability that Weezy has no idea that this is even going on right now.  Baby might have something to do with it, but most likely this is Universal‘s lawyer goonies up to no good.  Here is why this is REALLY happening.  The record industry is in a complete collapse, and these billion dollar companies are operating on a business model (selling cd’s, and music in general) that doesn’t make sense anymore.  So now that Universal‘s money is drying up, they are going after the little guys who have caked off a little bit over material that legally Universal owns.  You had companies that Drama was connected to, distributing Lil Wayne‘s material to commercial outlets for sale.  Even though I’m sure Drama put a lot of time and effort into cd’s like The Dedication 2, he doesn’t have the legal right to make money off of the name Lil Wayne because Lil Wayne has an exclusive contract with Cash Money Records.  So this is why these DJ’s are getting sued.  I’m sure Lil Wayne would agree that he doesn’t need the money, but guess what?  Universal does.  Drama definitely had a pivotal role in maintaining Wayne‘s relevancy in the game with his mixtapes, but at the end of the day Universal doesn’t give a fuck.  Money was made that legally they are entitled to, so they are going to do everything in their power to get it.  I’m telling you right now it’s only going to get uglier in the music business.  Be on the lookout for a lot more law suits.
