Happy 34th to Trey Songz!
The hip-hop world is still making heads or tails of Tekashi’s long-awaited DUMMY BOY, his studio LP debut, but Trey Songz isn’t allowing that gravitation around the release to hinder him from reminding music what he’s capable of, and why he’s a legend in his own right. Today, November 28th, Trigga Trey has come through with a surprise double album, fittingly titled, 11.28.
Celebrating his birthday in style, Trey released 11.28–broken down into two albums: 11 and 28–to commemorate his 34th with a 20-track dual-album offering. The first half, 11, is more of a solo effort as the lone features belong to the sonically complementary Ty Dolla $ign and Tory Lanez on this portion’s closing track, “Shootin Shots”. The project’s latter half, 28, opposites the first through boasting a loaded featured guest list, including the likes of 2 Chainz, Rich The Kid, Jeremih, Chris Brown, and plenty more. This sundry featured artist list is a testament to not only Trey’s impressive longevity, as it shows how he’s capable of working with today’s hottest artists and yesterday’s most cherished stars, but how his sound attracts stylistic diversity.
Trey Songz erupted as one of the industry’s most demanded hook artists in the ‘00s and early ‘10s thanks to his sultry style that lends itself to an eclectic musical bed. From baby-making R&B to hard-hitting trap music, Trey’s unique vocal texture makes him a commodity. 11.28 simply provides further evidence of his palatable style that seems to only strengthen with time and age.
