His first official single of the year.
UK’s slowthai began gaining widespread attention after he released his critically-acclaimed 2019 album, Nothing Great About Britain. For some, the LP acted as a departure from England’s signature Grime sound, introducing a sound that marries introspection, painful honesty, deft rhyming, and a heightened musical sensibility.
Since this studio album release, slowthai has continued embedding himself both in hip-hop and pop-culture, including his “Psycho” collaboration with Denzel Curry, currying favor with an eclectic, international fanbase — a reflection of his overall aesthetic. Recently, he inserted himself in the musical conversation by dropping his new single, “ENEMY.”
From the start, “ENEMY” imparts a raucous atmosphere thanks to deafening 808s, immediately grabbing the listener by the ears, refusing to let go. Without letting the beat run for too long, the 25-year-old artist intrepidly jumps on the zealous instrumental with a quick-tongued flow, almost engaging in a sparring match with the booming drums.
“ENEMY” is slowthai’s first official single of 2020.
