A diss track towards fellow Grime artist, Wiley.
2018 saw Skepta make his rounds as featured artist on an eclectic range of releases–including A$AP Rocky’s TESTING standout cut, “Praise Da Lord”, and Playboi Carti’s Die Lit track, “Lean 4 Real”–but avoided consistent solo output. There were a couple of singles, like “Pure Water”, but it was mostly a year of dishing out assists, of sidestepping the limelight. Only a little over a month into the new year, and it seems like Skepta is intent on changing the record: yesterday, February 3rd, he came through with his first 2019 single, “Wish You Were Here”.
Premiered via TimWestwoodTV, and now available on all DSPs, “Wish You Were Here” is a calibrated release targeted towards fellow Grime artist, Wiley. In October 2018, Wiley sent an accusatory tweet at Skepta, defaming him for collaborating with Wiley’s longtime rival, Dizzee Rascal. Remedying the situation in appropriate fashion, “Wish You Were Here” is a vivid diss track, not mincing words whatsoever about Skepta’s disdain towards the English artist.
