Wow — just, wow.
Fresh off their fan appreciation week, which saw releases from Ab-Soul, Isaiah Rashad, Zacari, and SiR, Top Dawg Entertainment isn’t resting on their laurels; their foot is on the gas, road is clear, full speed ahead. After releasing his Boogie-assisted “Rapper Weed” during said fan appreciation period, SiR returns today with a hyper-creative video offering for “John Redcorn.”
A cut from his last album, Chasing Summer, “John Redcorn” uses the King Of The Hill character as a metaphor for SiR’s heartbreak and difficulty dealing with love’s loss. To bring the symbolism full-circle, the new visual is a recreation of the acclaimed cartoon, using the TDE roster in lieu of the show’s characters.
Recycling an age-old concept in a novel fashion is no easy feat. SiR already accomplished that with the “John Redcorn” song itself, but with this visual, he takes that creativity and reimagination to a new level, demonstrating why he — and Top Dawg at large — are cut from a different artistic cloth.
