Right on schedule, Top Dawg Entertainment’s promised week of dominance continues. Following Ab-Soul, Zacari, and Isaiah Rashad, TDE’s soulful R&B star, SiR, has enterted his hat in the Top Dawg conversation with new single, “Rapper Weed” featuring Boogie.
On “Rapper Weed,” SiR distills his staple ethereal flow and voice — one that floats like morning mist creeping into the day — into the dynamic trap instrumental, creating a contrasting product that finds traction through friction. Letting the dust settle from SiR’s strong vocal performance, fellow West Coast MC, Boogie, lays down deft writtens that hop across flows, all in the name of furthering the song’s message of weed homage.
This medley of sounds yields a bouncy product whose Venn Diagram middle reads, “smooth as hell.”
