It’s a loaded release schedule today, with drops from Meek Mill to Lil Baby.
With the year drawing to a close soon, it seems like a wide sample of hip-hop’s talent pool is entering their hat into the ring for AOTY discussion. Today, Friday, November 30th, we’ve received submissions from some of rap’s quietest, yet most-demanded artists, like Earl Sweatshirt’s Some Rap Songs, in addition to some of its most discussed figures, like Meek Mill and his Championships project.
Joining Earl and Meek for today’s “New Music Friday” are Ski Mask The Slump God, Kaytranada, Big K.R.I.T., Lil Baby, The Alchemist, Peewee Longway, and Ghostface Killah.
Not only do the featured artists demonstrate a level of disparity between each other in terms of sonic aesthetics, but also in terms of release strategies. Lil Baby’s Street Gossip is his second solo project of the year, and third overall including his collab Drip Harder tape with Gunna; Earl’s Some Rap Songs comes a full three-years after his 2015 I Don’t Like Shit, I Don’t Go Outside.
These contributing factors coalesce to offer an engaging “New Music Friday”–one wrought with different textures to create a musical mosaic.
