Continue resting easy, Grammy Award-winning Nip.
There’s an unmistakable cloud cast over the culture today in light of Kobe’s surreal passing. Honored omnipresently — throughout social media, the NBA, and the Grammys — the pain of Bean’s departure conjures up memories of another fallen L.A. soldier taken before his time, Nipsey Hussle.
Both Kobe and Nipsey were honored at the 2020 Grammy’s last night through spoken and video tributes, including Nipsey winning his first gilded gramophones for Best Rap Performance (“Racks In The Middle”) and Best Rap/Sung Performance (“Higher” with DJ Khaled and John Legend), but Nip received special homage from Meek Mill and Roddy Ricch.
The two debuted their new collaboration “Letter To Nipsey” together at the 62nd annual Grammys. A touching song to a dearly-departed figure, Meek and Roddy’s new single illuminates the impact Nipsey left, and the void suffered in his absence.
Tough times right now, but if there’s one thing Kobe an Nipsey would tell us, it would be to keep putting one foot in front of the other. For right now, that’s all we can do.
RIP, Kobe & Nip.
