Rest easy, Mac.
Mac Miller’s early, devastating departure left a black hole in his fans’ hearts that probably won’t ever be fully healed. Time can’t heal all wounds, but it’s comforting to be able to perpetually hear his voice through his timeless music, and know that he was so beloved by everyone involved with him–both implicitly and explicitly.
Mac’s longtime manager, Clancy, who also has managed Odd Future, penned for The Guardian a very touching tribute to Mac, touching on his palpable selflessness–one of the many characteristics that made him so revered, respected, and talented. Whether Mac was giving rides to the studio to a then unknown Vince Staples or giving Chance the Rapper his first touring experience through having him as an opener, Mac never hesitated to lend a hand.
Clancy mentioned how ironic the tragic passing was given Mac’s seemingly jovial disposition and overall positivity at the time, recalling it as a “punch in the gut”. The two, plus Clancy’s partner and wife, Kelly, developed a kindred bond through their relationship, becoming just as good of friends as they were collaborators.
The void left behind in the wake of Mac’s passing will never be restored, but that sinking feeling of sorrow is eased knowing of and reading about Mac’s impact. He’ll be remembered for never hesitating to lend a hand, and for always cheesin’ from cheek-to-cheek.
Rest easy, Mac.
