Produced by Hit-Boy.
In a meeting of the California minds, LA’s Dom Kennedy and Oakland’s Kehlani have linked on the latter’s new track, “Nunya”.
Produced by Hit-Boy, a California native himself who frequently collaborates with Dom, “Nunya” is largely a departure from Hit-Boy’s traditional catalogue of more trap-heavy, aggressive production. Instead, the third 2019 single from Kehlani beats to her palatable style of lullabye-like singing and relaxing vibes. However, Hit-Boy still leaves his signature on the production by slipping-in just enough snares and hi-hats to detect his identity. Given his partnership with the cool and collected Dom Kennedy, the duo Half-A-Mil, though, Hit-Boy is no stranger to architecting alternative production styles.
A frequent purveyor of mellow music, Dom Kennedy parlays his innately calm vocal stylings to create synergy with Kehlani’s contributions and Hit-Boy’s soundscape. Handling verse three and the outro, as well as supplementing the last hook, Dom’s presence is the bow on “Nunya” that wraps the four-minute song into a bucolic California scene.
“Nunya” is a single off of Kehlani’s recently-announced forthcoming mixtape While We Wait, slated to arrive later this month.
