It’s an Oakland x Miami connection.
Miami’s Twelve’len — also a frequent collaborator of Denzel Curry’s; he was featured on Curry’s TA13OO (“BLACK BALLONS | 13LACK 13ALLOONZ”), imperial (“Good NIght” and “If Tomorrow’s Not Here”), among others — has been relatively quiet on the solo front lately, with his last project (Friend) dropping back in 2016. Perhaps he’s intent on returning to the spotlight, as he’s teamed up with Guapdad 4000 for the remix to his track, “Thank the Gang.”
On-brand for Twelve’len, “Thank the Gang (Remix)” has a smooth, spacey soul with a hip-hop finish, and reminds listeners why he’s been able to take a respite — he’s talented enough to return on his own terms. Distilling R&B and hip-hop vibes, especially the latter thanks to Guapdad’s contribution, “Thank the Gang (Remix)” continues drumming-up excitement for the South Florida upstart, and demonstrates his deft ability to blur the lines between singing and rapping without fully committing to one.
