A cathartic offering from the Atlanta icon.
Leave it to the prolific Future to waste no time with dropping music in the new year. The trap icon has come through recently with the Mike WiLL Made-It-produced track, “Black Jew.”
Reflecting on his tortured past, Future uses his new song to discuss the wounds he’s endured throughout his life. And while he’s now an outsized superstar who’s lost more money than most could ever hope to earn, his past’s ominous presence will always haunt him; the shadows of his pain will perpetually cloak him.
“I was baptized in the blood of the ghetto,” he croons over the pensive instrumental.
While he juxtaposes the harrowing rearview perspective with his current accolades and trappings of success, Future can’t shake what he’s seen. It’s this pain that has informed his music, that has made him the star who he is. The irony isn’t lost.
