It is a time where family and friends gather to pay respect to the memory of the deceased and bond together over shared loss and grief. Unfortunately, funerals are also a time where long-held feuds between family members occasionally boil over and overshadow the somber event. This is what happened this past Saturday, March 29th at a funeral held in Plymouth, Massachusetts.
Rapper/entrepreneur turned reality-TV star Raymond Scott, better known as Benzino, is now an Atlanta resident but returned to his home state to bury his late mother. He was shot an unspecified number of times during the funeral procession to St. Peter’s Church. The ‘Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta’ star is in stable condition at South Shore Hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.
The most disheartening fact of this story is that the alleged gunmen is Benzino’s own nephew, 36 year-old Gai Scott. According to various sources the two men had a long-running feud that spilled over on that somber day.
The Boston Globe reports that Gai Scott was taken into custody and is currently being held by Plymouth police. He will be arraigned in Plymouth District Court and is being charged with armed assault with intent to murder. We will have more information on this story as it becomes available.
