The Lion King premieres next Thursday, July 18th.‘90s babies are on the verge of receiving a serious injection of nostalgia with The Lion King’s imminence. Slated for a July 18th release, next Thursday, the CGI reimagining not only has built-in excitement thanks to the cult and commercial success of its ‘94 counterpart, but also because of its all star cast: Donald Glover, Seth Rogen, James Earl Jones (reprising his role as Mufasa), Eric André, Billy Eichner, John Oliver, Keegan Michael-Key, Chiwetel Ejiofor — and the queen herself, Beyoncé.
Part of Beyoncé’s involvement not only sees her voicing Nala, but, with her vast talents, also sees her contributing to the movie’s soundtrack. Today, we’ve received the first taste of that soundtrack with Bey’s new song, “Spirit.”
A soulful offering embedded in African themes, “Spirit” is an auspicious start for The Lion King’s decorated tracklist, which includes names like Donald Glover, Seth Rogen, Elton John; Hans Zimmer, the mastermind behind such scores as Inception and Interstellar, will be scoring and composing.
