In an interview with Wall Street Journal, Big Boi revealed that his solo career has morphed from a short-lived project to something that can last up to nine years. Who could blame him though as a solo artist, he’s recieved two Grammy nominations for his hit “Shutterbug” of his first solo album, Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty and once more for his collaboration with Janelle Monae in “Tightrope.”

However, don’t get it twisted! His relationship with Andre 3000 is still strong, as Andre produced some of the tracks off of Sir Lucious Left Foot. He told Wall Street Journal, “We do all aspects of the music, from producing to writing to rapping to using your funky, melodious voice, so it’s just about creating the best music. That’s what it is – creating music that has feeling and touches people right here…And we play off of each other and at the same time, we both embody every aspect of Outkast, so we can do it all.

Big Boi is not known for mixtape work, however like Kanye West, Swizz Beatz and a big number of other artists, he does partake in free music programs like G.O.O.D. Fridays and Monster Mondays. In fact, he told Wall Street Journal, “Before either one of them did it, I was doing it with this record. I put out “Shine Blockas” the day after Christmas, and then came “For Your Sorrows” maybe a week after that. They just put a name on it. But that was my method to releasing Sir Lucious Leftfoot – I didn’t have a record company releasing it, so I was just putting songs out like every week or two.
