Featuring Drake, Nas, Dave East, EarthGang, and more.
Whether it’s been a long week or you’re just looking forward to blowing off some steam, everyone can rejoice — the weekend is here. To properly celebrate the two-day vacation, DJ Forever Cold is back once again applying his expert filter to this week’s releases to curate the 8/14 Forever Cold❄️ playlist.
While each week’s update is unique for its own reason, this week’s is a little extra special given its starpower. Headlining this week’s Forever Cold❄️ playlist are: Drake, Nas, Dave East, Lil Scrappy, and 03 Greedo.
Kicking the doors off the hinges, Drake has come through with the Lil Durk-assisted “Laugh Now Cry Later” — the lead single from his highly-anticipated upcoming album, Certified Lover Boy (previously thought to have been titled Skeleton King). An anthem tailor made for the summertime and radio, “Laugh Now Cry Later” is a vibey offering with a catchy hook (“Baby”), and finds Drizz flexing his hybrid rapping-singing chops. The track is also accompanied by a hilarious music video, taking place at Nike’s headquarters, and is replete with a bevy of cameos: Kevin Durant, Odell Beckham Jr., Marshawn Lynch, to name some.
Next up, fellow legend Nas has come through with a new heater, “Ultra Black.” Produced by Hit-Boy, the new single from the Queen sicon serves as the impetus for his and Hit-Boy’s upcoming joint collab LP, King’s Disease, due out next Friday. Hit-Boy’s textured, unique instrumental recruits some stellar rapping from Nas, finding him in a place of unadulterated inspiration. “Ultra Black” provides fulfillment while inciting excitement for King’s Disease.
Dave East, who’s signed to Nas’ Mass Appeal Records, has also come through with new music today with his brand new album, Karma 3. A 15-track effort, East’s sophomore studio album continues proving his place in hip-hop as a conduit, connecting the old school — with his superior lyricism — and the new wave with his ability to conquer modern production. His track “The City” featuring Trey Songz has been added to this week’s list.
Heading down south, the Atlanta legend Lil Scrappy has come through with A3C Volume 9’s latest single, “Drippin.” An ode to his iced-out aesthetic, “Drippin” finds Scrappy effortlessly flexing his trappings of success over a versatile, energetic trap instrumental.
Going out west, L.A. legend 03 Greedo continues proving that prison can’t detain his musical passion, as he’s linked with Ron-RonTheProducer for Load It Up Vol 1. Coming in at 19-tracks, 64-minutes, Greedo and Ron-Ron are joined by the likes of Key Glock, Sada Baby, Chief Keef, and more. The collaboration with Chief Keef, “Bands In Da Basement,” has made this week’s list.
Other artists to make today’s playlist include: Young Dolph, Anderson .Paak, Liam Tracy, IDRYS, EarthGang, Internet Money, Trav, and Cousin Stizz.
