With quarantine compromising the nation, the days start to bleed into each other; we’re stuck in groundhog day right now. But one signifier to differentiate the monotony of this daily grind is knowing that Fridays come correct with fresh drops. Continuing that tradition, today’s slate of new music — and this week’s overall — has flooded the internet. DJ Forever Cold is here to comb through this ocean to present our favorite picks for the 4/17 edition of the Forever Cold❄️ playlist.

Legends and ambitious newcomers alike have come through with a diverse pallet of releases. Headlining this week’s Forever Cold❄️ playlist are: DaBaby, 21 Savage, Playboi Carti, Kid Cudi, Deante’ Hitchcock, Dee Watkins, Westside Gunn, and plenty more.

Getting things started on a zealous note, 2019 Rapper of the Year, DaBaby, has come through with his third studio album, BLAME IT ON BABY. Marketed by its DaBaby’s sonic departure lead single, “Find My Way,” this release set the tone for his KIRK successor. While there are plenty of tracks with the Carolina rapper’s staple energetic, asthmatic-inducing flow (i.e. “LIGHTSKIN SHIT” ft. Future), he’s also reserved tracks to demonstrate his range. Switching up both his beats and flow, like on the eponymous track, BLAME IT ON BABY continues DaBaby’s position as one of today’s most exciting rappers.

Fellow southern king 21 Savage has also come through with new music by way of the Summer Walker-assisted single, “Secret.” Leaning into his more mellow side, 21 and Summer lace the trap-soul Kid Hazel production with smooth vocals to impart a track ideal for late night situations.

21 Savage isn’t the only Atlanta rapper to drop heat this week — the ever-elusive Playboi Carti has come through with his first new solo music since 2018’s Die Lit album with “@ MEH.” Teased ahead of its release with the cover art, Carti’s cryptic tweet through the twitter rumor mill for a whirlwind. Fans were anxiously debating whether or not this would be a single or the coveted Whole Lotta Red album. And while it turned out to be the former, alongside a video, Playboi Carti’s cryptic social media habits have continued fanning these anticipatory album flames, as he tweeted “Monday” shortly after releasing Whole Lotta Red.

Being one of the most fertile modern music regions, Atlanta’s Deante’ Hitchcock and JID linked up for the former’s hype anthem, “I Got Money Now.” Both Deante’ and JID are revered for being young lyrical torch bearers, and with their new collaboration, they demonstrate their writing proclivities while also crafting a certified hit.

Staying down south, we’ve included the debut track, “Gang Gang,” from Quality Control’s latest signee, Wavy Navy Pooh. Hailing from Miami, Wavy Navy’s new track, whose video premiered on Worldstar, is an upbeat heater that reinforces QC’s talent curation skills. The track is a single from his upcoming debut project, Murder Is A Major Issue (M.I.A.M.I.)

Fellow southern ascending artist, Big Moochie Grape, has also been added to this week’s Forever Cold❄️ playlist with the intro track, “Eat Or Get Ate Intro,” from his recently-released Eat Or Get Ate album. The Memphis artist is signed to Young Dolph’s Paper Route Empire label.

Going back to the drops from more established artists, Kid Cudi came through earlier this week with his inaugural 2020 single, “Leader Of The Delinquents.”

Other additions include French Montana’s “That’s A Fact;” Lil Keed’s “No Dealings;” Blueface’s “Tour” ft. Asian Doll, Glokk 9, NLE Choppa, Sada Baby, and Kiddo Curry; and more.
